Each day is a gift.

Thinking about 9/11 and who passed away has been the focus of the world’s attention each moment for the last 25 years. Yet I wondered about all those were supposed to go to work that day and did not for whatever reason and survived.

The man who had a 9am dentist appointment. The mom who got delayed to go to work because she had to take her son to kindergarten. The man whose alarm clock did not go off at the prescribed time for the last 10 years. Someone who was stuck in traffic on the NJ turnpike due to an accident. The person whose car was giving trouble that morning. The man who got delayed answering a phone call. And the person who could not find her keys fast enough.

Each morning I tink about my routine. The rituals of getting up, use the bathroom, change the clothes, pack my lunch box, fill my water bottles, pour the hot water into my thermos, grab my supplements, do my Duolingo, say my prayers, wish the family good bye, and then leave. ( or at least something close to it). Anything out of order might “delay “ my morning commute to work.

Yet what if the “delay” is the universe’s way to keep me out of harms way. The super highway of constant motion and to not become caught in that and still get from A to B without incident is mathematically mind boggling, if one can imagine al the things that can happen along the way.

It is the trust in that divine hand that gives us the support and the ability to get through our day and night. If we study embryology and see all the things that have to happen in sequence in order for a baby to be born healthy is unfathomable. Anything out of order leads to disease or death even before the child comes into the world. Yet it happens each day. Miracles in each moment. Never take anything for granted. Life changes quickly.

It is a miracle that with all the craziness in the world and even on our own daily commute that something in the clockwork of life must be keeping the timing so perfect that things seemingly go right.

Trust the process. Be grateful and live each day with a humble attitude and pay attention to the marvelous flow of all things. No one knows which moment will be the last, so hence we are invited to enjoy the moment that we are in, for that is the only thing that is real.

You are that gift.
