Darkness. It gives us pain, fear and doubt. Yet it gives us our greatest growth. Every star only burns bright because it is surrounded by darkness. It is in fact the dark that pushes against the light, and so gives it strength to push back, to shine, to burn deeply.
It is the darkness that supports us. A flame can only be seen surrounded by darkness. In space all we see is the blackness, yet if we bring all of the matter of the universe into a ball, it would be 4% of everything, the rest 96 % is all dark matter. In a cell all parts condensed down would also be about 4% then rest is the emptiness. This void, this dark is the consciousness of the universe playing at shaping matter.
If the darkness was less, then the flame or the star would shine less. The darker it is, the brighter the shine. It is wise not to be afraid of the dark, for it pushes us to go deeper within and to transform. The dark gives the light resistance and character. It gives it space to shine.
Pain makes us feel alone, in the dark. Yet it is this very pain that will transform us, shape us, make us who we are to be become. The stars are alive with the pain to shine. Their beauty is only present due to the perseverance of the dark. IF there was only light then there would be no visible stars. If a flame is lit in the presence of sunlight, it cannot be seen.
So too our pain is what defines us by inviting us to what we grown beyond. The old song “ Hello Darkness my old friend”, by Simon and Garfunkel is a good reminder for each of us to go into the darkness to seek comfort, solace and silence. To understand what the divine consciousness has in store for us. To become part of that darkness, to absorb the pain and allow the birth of the star within to be revealed. Nothing is birthed without pain. not a child, not a star, not a galaxy and not a universe. Nothing.
The path to healing is through the darkness. The path to forgiveness is through the pain. The path to love has always been there, waiting for us to awaken to the light within our heart.
