After the death of Charlie Kirk we are saddened foe the loss to his family. Most just talk about his wife and kids. But what about his father. I am sure the loss of his son was just as painful. Yet there is another father who also lost a son. The assassin’s dad. One event, both are in pain. Their lives abruptly changed. One father lost his son to violence and the other father lost his son because of it.

The Kirk family lost their son forever as did the Robinson family, as he too is in prison with the death penalty. These holes in their hearts will be very hard to heal, if ever. Ironically 2 strangers are now intertwined with similar griefs. They are united in the same pain.

Pain is an emotion to which there are always two involved. Like 2 quantum particles both parties are effected. Its nature is primordially raw and unforgiving. It hurts, it burns, it scorches through like a fiery knife into the heart. It can be blinding and disorienting.

Pain spreads evenly in any terrible event like an equation. Yet an unbalanced one. And so on opposite sides the grief will emerge, as is the case in this example. Grief is grief. Pain is pain. As all humans going through the pain of any kind, be it loss, or ill-health, the question is always asked. Why me? What did I do wrong? How can this pain go away?

It cannot. Pain must be experienced. It must be transformed through its own metabolization. It is an organic process. Even our nervous systems process pain by letting it happen. Emotional and psychic pain are similar. They go through the heart space and the nervous system alike.

There is only one thing that can overcome pain. Love. Born from a deep faith, love can transform anything in life and death.
