Funny story with a great moral.

Remember my wreath post? The birds had created a nest inside the Christmas wreath and though it was a pleasure to watch them hatch and grow, the winter wreath remained on the front door.

So the wifey decides to take a quick peak and see how the chicks are doing. We can hear the chirping through the door for the last several weeks. She stealthily approaches and can see the baby birds, who have now caught sight of this human that appeared like a giant out of nowhere seemingly ready to eat them. Just as she tries to take a picture and says “ Awwww” at the bundle of cuteness they squeak and shriek and all fly out of the nest almost causing my wife to tumble backwards off the steps in surprise.

One little bird could not escape and seemed to get stuck in the wreath. The wifey now feeling guilty about scaring the birds is in 2 minds of helping this distressed bird. She begins to come towards it, just as the mommy bird from the side branch of the tree is screaming at the top of its lungs at the little bird. Presumably “ Fly fly get out from there, the human is coming back”.

Boom the little bird musters its last but of strength and takes flight. So now all the baby birds have flown the coop.

The moral of this story is that sometimes it takes a certain amount of risk and trust to just leap with faith. To take action, to take flight to our dreams is arduous, but what is harder is to stay with our fears. To be locked by them, to be chained to the disarray of our emotions and feel helpless is the worst form of victim hood. We all have fears and doubts but the difference between success and failure, is the toleration of risk and initiating of action.

Like the baby birds who flew, faced their fears and learned to fly in an instant. We too are invited to overcome our fears, take the action and soar.

Action… it’s the difference between being helpless and being successful.
