Yesterday was sunday the 13th.
We often freak out when we see that number. In fact there is so much of phobia that there is a term denoting it. Triskaidekaphobia. The fear of the number 13. Hotels eliminate the 13th floor, hospitals eliminate the 13th patient room designation. The superstition runs in many cultures. Perhaps that is why the calendars keep the numbers even like 12 months of the year, the 12 days of Christmas, the 12 gods of Olympus, the 12 apostles.
Anything can happen with the 13th character in any story. Such is the nature in any world event. In Norse mythology the 13th guest, Loki created mischief and death. The knights Templars were arrested on the 13th. Christ ( being the 13th ) was crucified.
Let me to invite you to look at the number 13 in a slightly different way.
The moon travels at an angle 13 degrees across the sky. The seasons last roughly for 13 weeks. 13 represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of the next. There are 13 weeks between equinoxes and solstices. 13 is the only teen number in the Fibonacci sequence. Christianity has 12 disciples and the holy sprit ( Jesus ) was the 13th. Buddha had 13 disciples. Islam had one prophet and 12 imams. We actually have 13 chakras not 7. 13 is a prime number. There are 13 major joints in the body ( ankles, knees, hips, wrists, elbows, shoulders and spine. ) There are 12 constellations going around 1 sun .. 13 !
There are 13 menstrual cycles in a year. The womb ovulates on the 13th day. For 1000s of years disciplines of a variety of cultures sat in circles of 12 with the teacher being the 13th. It was in 1487 Heinrich Kramer labeled the feminine energy as witchcraft and evil and since then the number 13 has become unlucky. The very womb of creation, 13, has become hated and become synonymous with evil.
So 13 is more of a spiritual number noted throughout nature rather than just the fearsome facts noted on the 13th day in folklore and antiquity. It is wise to look at all numbers as holy and whole(y). It is our perception that certain things are unclean and so we create these masterful superstitious traditions. Most of the time no one even remembers what the originally story was to begin with. We just follow the lore down the generations without thought. It is key to recognize the symbolism behind what we believe, especially its origins.
Glad it was not friday the 13th, that would be another fear all together. Paraskevidekatriaphobia. Try saying that a dozen times !!
………….
I love you
