Heaven and Hell
Religious books, cultural lore all seem to try to tell us where heaven and hell are residing and what we can do to get to each location.
Here is my understanding of these 2 concepts. I feel that both these states begin in our mind space. Hell is the feeling of despair and misery. A Tortuous blend of unhappiness and challenges. Heaven is a feeling of lightness and joy. A harmonious blend of happiness and ease.
Hell comes from the old English word of Hel or Helle meaning nether world of the dead. It is a feeling of isolation and death to our spirit. We experience this in different areas of life.
When we feel spiritually disconnected, we may feel we are alone and in hell.
When we feel physically sick and having a rough time with disease and illness, we feel hell.
When we feel mentally disturbed, stressed out, burnt out, and emotionally exhausted, we may say “ I want to get out of this hell”.
When we are financially strapped, and with mounting bills and debtors knocking on our door, the pangs of hell and despair are resounding.
When a relationship is broken with friends or loved ones, the bitterness that is ensued may feel hellish indeed.
When we feel trapped under mountains of work in our career or vocation, or the business is not doing well, or there are too many challenges that suck us dry, we feel the fires of hell.
And so our outward experiences make us feel we are dying.
Yet quite the opposite if the relationships are seemingly perfect, the money flows effortlessly, we love our job, we feel physically, emotionally and mentally strong, we feel connected spiritually to “ heaven”. When the perception of all things are going right and are good, then life feels heavenly. Yet neither state is real and exists only in our minds.
Love is the only true state of existence where there is no heaven or hell to strive towards or run away from to avoid. Love exists in the heart space, not the mind space. So every experience can be a heaven or hell, it is a matter of perception.
