Our minds, our bodies, our lives are constantly in search for balance. We are searching for the pleasure, the good, and avoiding the pain, the bad and the suffering. So then why do we expect the balance when we are attempting to always search for the one sided polarity.

In my opinion, we try to find that zero point or that balance because just like working a lock, we arduously are trying to get the perfect combination to open up our heart to love and grace. By changing our perspectives and perceptions we are able to do that, but life still seems to throw at us situations to keep us off kilter. An unexpected bill hitting a low bank account, a car break down, the leaving of a partner, the death of a loved one, and then we cry out to the heavens above “ what else can go wrong ?”

This is all part of the imperfection of life. Our perceptions are imperfect, our moralities and ethics are imperfect. Our bodies are imperfect too. We have a heart that is not at the center, and sits to the left. Our liver is offset to the right. Our ribs are rotated. We only have one of various organs and not two like the lungs or the kidneys, arms and legs. Even the lung lobes are not equal on the right and left sides. Each hemisphere of the brain does different things and is not balanced. Each eye is not perfectly symmetrical on the face. The right and left ventricles ( heart chambers) are different sizes. Our leg lengths and pelvis heights might be misaligned.

If our bodies are not perfectly balanced, why should we expect that everything in our lives will be. It is in the striving for this balance that we learn to not just live but to love ourselves and others. It is in searching something to live for, fulfill a purpose and not just staying alive, that we wade through the imbalances of existence.

So the realization that we are not perfect is the humbling lightning rod that helps us get grounded back into reality. We have imperfect thoughts, we have imperfect actions, we have imperfect minds and bodies. But this does not mean we are broken. This does not mean we need to be fixed. We are perfect in our imperfection that allows each of us to be a uniquely gifted piece in the mysterious unfolding puzzle of the universe.

Say it out loud each day in front of the mirror. “ I am imperfect, I am not broken, I do not need to be fixed. I am love in human form and that is perfection enough.”
