Another insight during the ultra marathon. Magnification.
My friend had warned me about this but I did not enbibe or even understand it till I began the long course of the run. His advice was simple, “anything that seems out of whack take care of it before it becomes a bigger issue.”
As the miles piled on so did the relative fatigue. The trail course was not without its own faults filled with mud, water and treacherous rocks underneath waiting to be discovered by the unsuspecting runners shoe. The attention to foot placement became that much more tedious and painstakingly laborious.
Once alone in the fields, each sound in the distance seemed to become louder. The rush of the river nearby seemed deafening. The bird calls became more annoyingly conversant. The slight chaffing in the shorts grew to a worse nuisance. The tiny shoe bite became abundantly clear as my shoes were filled with mud and the socks soaked heavy with stream water.
Each pain, each annoyance, each cramp, each ache all gradually grew in their own rite trying to create a habitat of their own. Along with the physical, the mental hurdles also took their own forms and tried to breathe life into my path. Doubt, fear and aloneness. They decided to raise their ugly heads and have a party in my mind with fanfare and all.
The only way to take care of the physical is to catch the issues early and nip them at their source. That is what I did. For the mental too. I settled into the aloneness. I allowed the doubts and fears to surface only to quieten when facing each one. My “whys” for doing this event squashed them quickly. The rational part of my brain barricaded the almost out of control runaway part of me that was trying to make me stop .
In this insight I realized that the smallest of things can explode and become a wildfire if unchecked. So too is the case with our emotions or judgments. Any major problem in life begins by being small. By paying attention to the details of the minutia and being cognizant of how they manifest we can prevent the disasters. Yet equally so, the tiniest of dreams and rays of hope can become the greatest of adventures and goals that come to light. Such as the dream of an invention or a career or or a relationship. That little ember rises into a roaring fire of success and prosperity.
We can either nip it in the bud before it is allowed to expand or cultivate the smallest of feelings into a sea of abundance. The choice is ours for being human also means that there are no limits except those we choose to place upon ourselves.
…………..
I love you
