There is a meme trending around the new generation “ 6-7” that they all keep saying based on some idiotic TikTok video referring to online slang about LaMelo Ball a basket ball player who is 6 feet 7 inches tall. Every time I have to tell my kids about some number or time they reply “ 6 7”. Totally dumb. Yet one thing I was thinking about during this last ultra was in fact those 2 numbers and their significance.

When I was doing my 60% or 70% of my 50 K or the 6th or 7th loop of my 50K last year or my 6/7th mile of a 10 miler, or even 6/7th of a 10K ( around 8 miles) something happens. An almost feeling of defeatist attitude comes over me. Like when will this be over ?why am I doing this? What is the point of it all? The longer the run the deeper the questions, so for example in the 50K I was pondering nay praying for answers to “ what is the point of life? Why am I here on this planet? Etc”

Some how when we reach 60% to 70 % of doing something hard whether it being in training or racing, or doing a hard task at our job, or even I guess at the age of 60 to 70, we start asking the deep contemplative questions that require a solution. Even a reply would do. It is not at 100% that we inquire, nor even up to 40 to 50% as we are busy building momentum, yet at 60-70% we seem to lose steam. That is when we are invited to push through and get the task done.

In life there is a threshold point that we have to thrust beyond to explore the outcomes. I believe it is at 6-7 of whatever it maybe, a job, career, exercise, a tough task, reading through a book, or even eating a meal.

One must be 60 to 70% full in their meal to feel the urge to stop.

Maybe it is just me, but I think for my mindset 60-70% is the golden sweet spot of either I continue to get to perseverance or quit.

……………

I (100 %) love you
