Sleep time contemplations.

I was putting my daughter to sleep, and she had been quite restless. After a period of time that felt like forever, she slowly started to settle down. I was a little impatient at how long this process was taking, so I finally turned to her, tucked her in tighter and said “ good night little one”. She promptly replied “good night padawan”.

As I walked away, I started thinking about her words. Now I am sure or at least quite sure that she said that because padawan and little one rhymed. Well mostly sure. For those unfamiliar with the term, padawan, is a designation to all young learners in the Jedi arts, based on the fictional star wars pantheon and lore.

So was she right? Am I a padawan? I am an adult. I should have it all figured out by now right? What did she know that I was failing to see. Patience. The lesson of patience was something that I was being taught. In that I am surely a novice. I clearly failed in that lesson and so I have ways to go before I master this trait.

Each of us are tested with the gift of patience. Some of us have it, some of us clearly were not present when it was being handed out prebirth. Was the universe reminding about patience through this “little one”?

I know that she pushes my buttons daily in one facet or the other, in an effort to make me grow. Those that are closest to us usually do. I think that is the purpose of family, to facilitate our evolution.

Patience. I never seem to have enough of it, surprisingly so in an abundant universe that was born out of infinite patience. I may always be a padawan learner when it comes to this trait, but for now I can do my very best to develop a little in each moment.

The force is strong with this one. I have much to learn from her, even though she is my “child”.

…………….

I love you
