And with a snap of our fingers the news story of California is forgotten, just like that. The lost homes, the devastation, the fall out, the heart break. The world moves on, but the victims are forced to limp along with their losses. Many died in the fires leaving only the ashes to tell the tales.
The ironic thing is that as California had the hot flames of destruction, simultaneously the arctic chills and snow storms engulfed the mid west and the northeast, bringing the damages and chaos to millions. Hot and cold, opposite swift swords of nature provided a terrible cost to peoples’ lives and property.
Now the news cycle quickly flips to the crashing of planes and near misses with faulty airplane equipment, causing more emotional shock to all, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones. Whether it is accidents, or nature’s fury, old age or disease, death comes to us all, suddenly or gradually, but to its clutches, we are powerless.
I complained when my house was a mess till I saw people with their homes in fire reduced to dust. I complained about my being cold till I the homeless begging in the arctic chill. I whined about my kids not putting their clothes away till I saw the children having died in the plane crash.
It is in the opposites of our experiences that the lessons are learned.
The fact that it feels so senseless and we may feel so helpless when these events happen, is a reminder of how vulnerable and how tragically fragile we remain. For all our daily bravado, we have no idea if at the end of the day we will return back to our bed from whence we rose in the morning.
Yet it is in this state of softness and gentleness that we emerge with the feeling of conquering our earth, space, oceans and our fellow creatures. This irrational arrogance that we saber eventually brings us to our knees as we do not yet realize how to wield our own humility.
Only when we yield to our fragility, and surrender to our hearts that we can understand the depths of our humanity. It is a journey that few seek, but many are invited to explore. The reason why I think we do not go deeper is because we do not feel safe in knowing the inner realms, for if we cannot see the the bottom of the swimming pool we are scared to just dive in. Yet the heart has no floor nor does our humanity have an upper limit. The path itself is a vortex of unending power. Where does it begin or end, the answer is unknown like a towering flame that appears endless and bottomless, shapeless. And this frightens us, rather it scares our mind.
By going into our own vulnerability we may discover truths that we were not ready for, but that does not mean that the truths do not exist. It is in the very heart of our helplessness, our darkest of nights that a light emerges. Our light. Light can only be seen in a dark place. Contrast. Our biggest challenges that makes us fear them, also makes us face them, with our newly found warm light of wisdom, compassion and love we emerge across the bridge of enlightenment to our unbridled magnificence.
It is by embodying this light that we learn our limitless heart and its capacity to love with connection and communication via light. This is what it means to feel vulnerability intensely. It is our own light that faces the dark and emerges with safety and strength as we stand on the precipice of change we become the threshold that increases the light in the universe. We are that we seek. Love.

I love you
